Open Records Request
The Texas Public Information Act guarantees the public access to information maintained by a governmental entity. It is the policy of this Office to provide the greatest access possible to public information. If you wish to request information under the Texas Public Information Act, please refer to the following requirements and guidelines.
Requests for information must be made in writing. Your request should include your name, address, and a detailed description of the records you are requesting.
Electronic requests will be accepted ONLY if they are sent to the designated email of email@example.com.
Reports may be purchased in person from 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. The price for a report is .10 cents per page. We will only release the portion of the report that is public information. Public information only contains the type of offense, date/time of offense, name of officer who responded and any items reported stolen or damaged. The public record will not contain any portion of the officer’s narrative. If your insurance company requests a copy of a report, the Public Record contains the information needed. An Open Records Request can provide you the detailed report, which contains the officer’s narrative. You may submit your written request asking for the full and complete report or the portion we are allowed to release via email or you may mail to: Shelly Eaton, Paralegal for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, P.O. Vehicle Accident Reports
Accident Reports can be obtained by mail or in person M-F from 8am to 4pm.

Checks, money orders or cash is accepted. Cash is accepted only in person. Please have the correct amount since we do not always have funds available to make change. We do no accept credit cards/debit cards.
Reports under 10 days of the accident may not be available for purchase, please contact Central Records to inquire on the status of your report. The number is (512) 854-9749. Reports can take anywhere from two to 10 days to be submitted.
If you were involved in an accident and the officer issued you a Blue Form, the request must be completed by the person(s) involved in the collision and must be mailed (within 10 days from collision) to;

Sheriff’s accident report will not be written if you have been issued a blue form.
Reports cannot be faxed. They may be purchased in person at 5555 Airport Blvd., Austin, Texas 78751, or we will mail the report to your address upon receipt of payment.
Incarceration records checks through the Travis County Sheriff’s Office are from May 1988 to present. The Sheriff’s Office DOES NOT PROVIDE CRIMINAL HISTORIES OR CLEARANCE LETTERS OR CHECK FOR OUTSTANDING WARRANTS. For complete and accurate criminal history information, refer to the Texas Department of Public Safety and or the Federal Bureau of Investigation. You may come in person between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. You must have a current driver’s license, state-issued ID, military ID or passport. Other identifying information may be requested. There is a $15.00 fee payable to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. Fees can be paid by exact cash, check or money order.
If you are requesting arrest/incarceration records information on another individual, you must provide us with a notarized letter signed by the individual or power of attorney, along with a copy of their ID. The letter must state that the individual authorizes us to release the information to you. The letter must contain the signature of the person and the signature must be notarized.
