Internal Affairs assists the Sheriff’s Administration in maintaining public trust by conducting administrative investigations of officer involved critical incidents. Critical incidents include officer involved shootings, pursuits resulting in serious injury, or any incident resulting in serious injury or death of a person, regardless of any allegations of misconduct.
We also investigate complaints of misconduct received on any TCSO employee, whether received from citizens or TCSO employees. All investigations are conducted in accordance with the Sheriff’s Civil Service Rules.
Complaint Guidelines
All complaints are evaluated to determine the severity of the complaint and the possible impact on the employee in question. As a matter of policy, we do not investigate complaints concerning traffic violations or criminal charges when a person’s guilt or innocence is the issue in question. Additionally, we do not normally investigate unsigned complaints, third party complaints, anonymous complaints, or complaints of improper actions (whether administrative or criminal) by employees of other law enforcement agencies.

The internal affairs complaint process typically takes 60 to 90 calendar days to complete. During this time, the investigation is conducted, and the Employee’s Command reviews the findings and recommends any appropriate disciplinary action. Once the process is finalized, you will receive a notification via letter or email outlining the actions taken.
