Inmate Dies at Local Hospital

At approximately 10:00 am on September 3, 2022, inmate VICTOR GONZALES, 37 of Galveston, TX communicated he was experiencing medical symptoms to TCSO medical staff. At approximately 10:20 am, Gonzales became unresponsive, and CPR was immediately initiated. When ATCEMS arrived, they continued CPR and transported Gonzales to a local hospital where he died later that day.

Gonzales was booked into the Travis County Jail September 1, 2022, (transferred from TDCJ) charged with Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility. (Bond: $20,000.00)

An investigation by TCSO’s Internal Affairs Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, Texas Rangers and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office is underway, as is customary with any death in custody. The autopsy and the final report are pending.
