Death in Custody at Travis County Correctional Complex
On March 22, 2022, at 3:50 am, a corrections officer conducting visual checks of inmatesobserved BARRON HAYWOOD, 49 of Del Valle unresponsive in his cell. CPR was immediatelyadministered by TCSO staff and medical team, then continued by ATCEMS. Resuscitationefforts were ultimately unsuccessful and Haywood was pronounced dead at 4:08 am.
Haywood was booked into custody January 14, 2022, charged with Assault Causing BodilyInjury and a Writ of Attachment.
An investigation by TCSO’s Internal Affairs Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, the TexasRangers and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office is underway, as is customary withany death in custody. The autopsy was conducted on March 23, 2022, and the final report ispending.
