TCSO Investigating Fatal Shooting Involving Off-Duty APD Officer
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting involving an off-duty Austin Police Department officer that occurred in TCSO jurisdiction Friday evening.
TCSO Dispatch received multiple 911 calls just after 6 p.m. reporting shots fired at a barbershop on the 1700 block of Crystal Bend Drive, and that someone had been shot. On scene, deputies located an adult male who was obviously deceased with gunshot wounds. A second subject, who sustained a gunshot wound, was located at a nearby residence and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
TCSO’s preliminary investigation has revealed that a man entered the business and opened fire on patrons and employees. An employee was shot and fled the building, seeking help at the nearby residence. An off-duty Austin Police Department officer, who was at the barbershop when the suspect entered and opened fire, returned fire, fatally striking the suspect.
The identity of the suspect has not been determined yet. The motive is also unknown at this time.
TCSO asks anyone who may have information about the incident to call the TCSO Tip Line at 512-854-1444 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.
