FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 14, 2025

Corrections Officer Arrested for Bringing Contraband into Travis County Correctional Complex

TCSO arrested Corrections Officer Amos Nyanway and charged him with Contraband in Correctional Facility, a Class B Misdemeanor.

On August 21, 2025, a corrections officer with the Security Threat Intelligence Unit was working on an unrelated matter when he became aware that Officer Nyanway may have provided chicken wings to an inmate in return for monetary compensation.

An investigation was immediately initiated, and Nyanway was assigned to administrative duties for its duration. Nyanway began his employment with TCSO on June 17, 2024. His employment was terminated effective today.

“I’m disappointed that a Travis County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Officer made such a foolish decision. We hold our employees to a high standard of conduct and accountability. We simply cannot tolerate contraband of any type being brought into our secure facilities.”

-Sheriff Sally Hernandez
