FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 19, 2024
Body Recovered from Lake Travis
At 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, TCSO Lake Patrol Deputies and other first responders responded on Lake Travis to the area near the 19800 block of Lakehurst Loop after receiving a 911 call reporting that a male jumped from a cliff into the water and did not resurface.
By 6:37 p.m., the rescue mission transitioned to recovery with Lake Patrol continuing search efforts until nightfall. Efforts resumed Sunday morning and continued until nightfall. When efforts resumed Monday morning, a body was located by 7:18 a.m. with recovery concluding at 8:02 a.m.
Search efforts included shoreline, surface, aerial and sonar, as well as remotely operated underwater camera (ROV) searches. Texas Parks and Wildlife and the LCRA assisted in these efforts.
Out of respect for the family involved, and because there is currently no indication this is a criminal incident, TCSO will not disclose the identity of the decedent via press release.
TCSO reminds patrons of Lake Travis that the best way to ensure your safety on the lake, or any other body of water, is to wear a life jacket. TCSO also cautions lake-goers to be aware of the danger of cliff jumping as lake levels remain low.
In the event of an emergency on the water, follow these steps:
