PSYCHIATRIST
Closing Date:

Hours: 8 am to 5 pm; weekdays.
Work site: Travis County Jail, 509 W. 11th St., Austin, Texas and Travis County Correctional Complex, 3614 Bill Price Road, Del Valle, Texas.
Salary:
Pay Grade 98 - $122,175 - $195,481, annually commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions:

Evaluates, diagnoses and assesses inmates with psychiatric illnesses. Analyzes patient data and test findings to formulate treatment programs.  Prescribes, directs and administers psychotherapeutic treatements or medications to treat emenal, emotional or behavioral disorders.  Collaborates and consults with physicans, psychologists, social workers, and other professionals to discuss treatment plans and related mental health issues.  Provides advice and assistance in eveloping and implementing policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient psychiatric care.  Provides expert testimony in court case dispositions.  

Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a degree as a medical doctor including residency in the field of psychiatry AND three to five years of increasingly responsible experience in a correctional facility, psychiatric outpatient clinic, or diagnostic clinic. License to practice as a medical doctor in the State of Texas and the Texas Board of Medical Examiners. Possession of a valid Texas driver's license.

Preferred:

Certification in forensic psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Methods, procedures, rules and regulations in the field commensurate with a Psychiatrist practicing in the State of Texas, including diagnostics and statistical manual, TCSO policies, Texas Medical Board guidelines, and, pharmaceutical facts and comparisons.
Federal, State and Local applicable laws, rules and regulations, and applicable professional health care standards and procedures.
Types and uses of psychotherpeutic drugs.
Management and supervisory principles, practices and techniques.
Computer equipment to include word processing, spreadsheets and databases, and related software applications.
Business letter writing, grammar and punctuation, and report preparation.
Skills:
Skill in the care and treatment of patients with mental illnesses.
Use of medical equipment utilized in area of assignment.
Supervising others, including team building.
Explaining complicated technical problems in simple, non-technical language.

ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATE

Essential Job Functions:
Prepares routine financial statements for the department, from start to finish, including completion of accounting entries and reconciliation of accounts and statements.  Plans, prepares, records and analyzes activities such as cash receipts, general ledger, cash disbursements and other general accounting transactions. Reconciles bank statements and maintains filing system of canceled checks, bank statements and other documentation.  May assist in implementing accounting systems and procedures for department.  May assist in routine budget preparation and maintenance.  Prepares bid packages and distributes to vendors.  May submit food bid awards/contracts to Commissioners Court.  May prepare vendor price lists and order forms. schedule deliveries, receive shipments, maintain inventory, prepare food encumbrances, verify invoices, prepare reports, statistic, input on budget, and ensure purchasing laws are adhered to.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Physical/environmental factors include lifting/carrying up to 10-15 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment, standing, sitting, walking, climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, squatting to perform the essential functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working knowledge of the HTE System desirable.  Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including GASB 34; of standardized financial practices; of federal, state and local government code; of computer systems and standardized financial/accounting software.  Skill in entering financial data and completing routine financial reports.  Ability to analyze, calculate, consolidate, reconcile and interpret accounting data and identify errors; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

PHYSICIAN'S ASSISTANT/NURSE PRACTITIONER

Salary:
Pay Grade 24 $62,086.00 - $80,712.00, annually commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions:

Provides direct healthcare to patients, including performing physical assessment of patients using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation and percussion; orders and/or performs laboratory studies, interprets studies and reports normal and abnormal findings to a physician after specified screening procdeures. Secures and evaluates comnplete medical histories of patients. Refers patients with abnormal findings to appropriate medical/psychological specialists for care. Provides healthcare within the socpe of practice. Consults with clinical and administrative staff about patient health care issues. Maintains inventory and security control of medical supplies, including drugs. Fills and dispenses medicines within the scope of practice and supervises self-administeration as necessary and appropriate.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
AND one (1) year of Physician Assistant experience.
Current license to practice as a Physician's Assistant in the state of Texas
Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner
Current CPR course completion

CADET CORRECTIONS OFFICER

Hourly Essential Functions:
Cadets attend training academy to become a Certified Jailer. Books, transfers, transports, and releases inmates with attention to the health, safety, and security of other officers, inmates, and the public. Conducts inspections and inmates searches. Checks, completes, and processes official papers and documents. Participates in safety inspections and fire drills. Provides informal counseling to inmates. Conducts head counts. Intervenes and resolves crisis situations such as fights and medical emergencies. Assists with the personal needs of inmates such as telephone calls, mail, visits. Serves meals. Monitors and assists visitors. May be assigned to plan, organize, and conduct recreational programs for inmates. May be assigned to maintenance duties. Responds to and may be required to administer medical first aid, CPR, etc. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education and experience equivalent to a High School graduation or its equivalent; prior to being promoted to Corrections Officer, must obtain Jailer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education.

DEPUTY SHERIFF LAW ENFORCEMENT

Essential Functions:
Patrols an assigned area and responds to emergency calls and routine compaints. Issues traffic citations and directs traffic; investigates traffic accidents and crimes against persons and property. Serves warrants, makes arrests and starts booking procedures on arrested individuals. May serve court processes, collect evidence, guard and transport prisioners, patrol lake areas by boat or on horseback; may address and work with community groups to foster good relations with the public. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
:
Experience and education equivalent to a High School graduation or its equivalent and basic certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers and Education.
Must be at least 21 years of age with preferably two years of experience of law enforcement.

LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE (LVN) - Two positions

Salary Information: $16.23 to $20.29 hourly; commensurate with experience.

Position Function: 

Evaluates total health care need of patients and develops plans to meet those needs. Arranges for or provides medical treatment to inmates. Reports to Medical Section Supervisor.

Examples of work performed: 

Responds to inmate medical needs and arranges for or provides treatment. Maintains security and safety procedures for inmates and staff. Provides health care instruction and counseling to inmates. Assists physicians, psychiatrists and dentists as needed. Processes inmates into the jail by screening and evaluation of medical and mental histories as needed. Maintains inventory of medical supplies (including drugs) and maintains security control of these items. Fills and dispenses medicines and supervises self-administration. Answers inmate and staff inquiries. Maintains medical charts and records. Maintains the cleanliness of the work area. Performs clerical duties, such as records filing. Sets appointments for the inmates to see a physician, psychiatrist or dentist. Makes frequent observations of medical cells. Performs all other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements: 

Standing, sitting, kneeling, stooping, lifting, bending, climbing, twisting upper body, walking, running, carrying, listening, talking, use of telephone and radio, and exposure to medical equipment and persons with risk of illness. Must be willing to work any shift, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Must be certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse with current license to practice by the Texas State Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners. Must successfully pass all written tests required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Thorough knowledge of and skills in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and of the philosophy of principles of general nursing. Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing to professional standards. Must be able to maintain a pleasant, courteous demeanor when dealing with other employees, the general public and other outside agencies.

SECURITY COORDINATOR

Monitors and operates all security systems within the detention complex, including the alarm system, base radio, cameras and the electronic panel to controlled areas and buildings. Maintains accurate inventory of keys. Updates and maintains complete detainee rosters and a daily activity log. Performs a variety of administrative support tasks and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

Experience and education equivalent to a High School Diploma or a G.E.D. Certificate AND must complete a 40-hour basic adult or juvenile correctional training course within six months of assignment to the job classification. Must qualify for Jailer License within six (6) months of assignment to the job classification.
