Founded in 1977 with a single employee, the Research & Planning Section has grown during the past 30 years to a staff of five.  The primary purpose of the unit is to handle the “big picture” for the agency, but staff certainly also handle a myriad of additional items and subject.
General Job Duties and Assignments
n Long range planning – Responsible for strategic and long range planning for the agency.
n Statistical analysis of various functions of the operation.  Includes jail and law enforcement performance levels, crime trends and other statistical resources.
n Performance auditing – Conduct performance audits of departmental sections within the agency in and effort to identify issues and improve overall efficiency of the agency.
n Budget preparation - Responsible for annual general budget preparation for the agency.
n Grant development and monitoring - Responsible for federal, state and local grant design, application, acceptance and monitoring for the agency.  
n Emergency Response Planning – Responsible for emergency response planning for the agency.  Work with other response partners on local, regional and state planning efforts. Also serve as a deployable departmental resource with a focus on planning and logistical elements of Incident Command System (ICS).
n Planning and research for all aspects of the agency - Facilitates specialized projects based on the needs of the agency and community as they reflect and transcend to duties of the staff.
n Represent the agency on local and regional projects related to law enforcement and correctional issues.
n Monitoring of legislative events and impacts during biannual legislative session
n Contract negotiations as required for memorandums of understanding, interlocal agreements and mutual aid agreements.
n Project and product specification research and design – Assist staff with product research and specification design as requested.
n Testing of new products through field trial and research criteria.
