Juan Sandoval was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Stationed out of Camp Pendleton California he served four years in the Infantry. Upon completion of his service to the Marine Corps, Juan moved to San Antonio to pursue a higher education. He graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

He moved to Austin in 2003 and started working with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office in July 2004. He has worked in various areas of the Sheriff’s Office gaining experience. He has been a field-training officer, honor guard member, training coordinator and adjunct instructor to the Training Academy with a focus on Spanish for law enforcement. During his employment, he was also able to continue his higher education and graduated in 2009 from Texas State University in 2009 with a Master of Public Administration degree.

In 2010, Juan promoted to sergeant and spent most of his time at this rank assigned to the Corrections Tactical Unit. In 2014, Juan promoted to the rank of lieutenant and in 2015, Juan was appointed to the rank of captain assigned to the Administration and Support Bureau.

Juan and his wife of 11 years have called Austin home since 2003. They enjoy the outdoors and music scene Austin has to offer. They are extremely proud of their daughter and her activities ranging from swimming, soccer, piano and dancing.
