7th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Campaign News Conference

On September 27, 2017, TCSO will host a news conference to announce the 7th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness purple ribbon campaign.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In this year’s local campaign, Football is a Contact Sport. Love Shouldn’t Be., the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Advocacy Project and SAFE have partnered with school districts in Travis, Bastrop, Hays and Williamson counties to prevent domestic violence and promote safe, healthy relationships.

The campaign will engage over 4,000 high school football players to stand up against dating and
domestic violence. During the month of October, football players will be wearing purple ribbon
decals on their helmets and varsity volleyball teams will wear purple shoe laces. Announcements
will be made before and during each game to increase awareness and coaches will receive
educational materials on what they can do to support young people in becoming positive role

The Texas Advocacy Project provides free legal services for victims of domestic violence. 1-
800-374-HOPE. SAFE provides emergency shelter, counseling and other services at 1-512-267-
SAFE. A complete list of partners’ names will be provided at the news conference along with
brochures in the press packets.

Interviews with speakers and participants will be possible after the news conference.
