The mission of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office’s Highway Enforcement and Accident Team (H.E.A.T. Unit) is to enforce Texas' traffic laws. It investigates crashes that occur within the highways and roadways of Travis County. The primary purpose of the H.E.A.T. Unit is to reduce traffic and fatality collisions, and to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout Travis County with primary attention to the unincorporated areas of the county.

The H.E.A.T. Unit is a specially trained unit made up of eight full time deputies and is supervised by a sergeant. Each deputy is required to attend an Advance Accident Investigation course. The H.E.A.T. Unit works closely with the Texas Department of Public Safety and other agencies within Travis County by assisting them which reconstructions of serious bodily injury collisions and fatal collisions.
