Our Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is responsible for investigating complaints that have potential criminal elements associated with them. Detectives assigned to CID collect and preserve evidence, interview victims and witnesses, and ensure a thorough investigation is completed. CID is comprised of seven specialized units staffed with detectives who investigate both misdemeanor and felony cases:
Child Abuse Unit
This unit conducts criminal investigations into allegations of physical abuse and neglect of children 14 years of age or younger and sexual abuse of children under 17 years of age. The Child Abuse Unit also investigates allegations of abuse and neglect of persons 65 years of age or older and disabled persons.
Cold Case Unit
The detectives who are assigned to this unit are specially trained and dedicated to investigating the unsolved homicide, sexual assault, and missing person cases in which the initial investigation exhausted all leads and closure was not resolved.
Family Violence Unit
This unit conducts criminal investigations into allegations of domestic violence against victims 15 years of age or older, but less than 65 years of age.
Financial Crimes Unit
This unit is responsible for investigating the offenses of credit card abuse, identity theft, forgery and various internet-related financial offenses.
Homicide Unit
The detectives who are assigned to this unit are specially trained and dedicated to investigating homicides, suspicious deaths, and unexplained deaths. These detectives also investigate TCSO officer-involved shootings, in-custody inmate deaths, and high-profile cases.
Persons Crimes Unit
This unit conducts criminal investigations into allegations of crimes against persons ranging from harassment to aggravated robbery.
Property Crimes Unit
This unit is responsible for investigating property crimes such as burglaries and thefts.
Sex Crimes Unit
The detectives who are assigned to this unit are specially trained and dedicated to investigating all adult sexual assaults 17 years of age and older and sexually related offenses.
