FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 18, 2022

TCSO Has Recovered Two Bodies Near Little Webberville Park Where Swimmers Were Reported Missing

At approximately 6:45 pm on April 16, 2022, deputies responded to the 900 block of Water Street (Little Webberville Park). Multiple 911 callers reported two men missing in the water near the park. Witnesses reported that one of the men was in distress and the second man attempted to help him. Both men went under the water and never resurfaced. Rescue efforts were unsuccessful, and the incident became a recovery mission at 7:38 pm.

TCSO Lake Patrol boats are too large for the depth of water in that area of the Colorado River. The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and Texas Parks & Wildlife assisted, providing boats and equipment for the search efforts.

The initial search continued into the night of April 16th and was eventually suspended for safety reasons. At 7:30 am on April 17, 2022, search efforts resumed using sonar and a remotely operated underwater camera system. The body of a man was discovered in the area where the swimmers were reported missing and was recovered that evening. The morning of April 18, 2022, the search resumed, and the body of a second man was recovered. Neither man was wearing a floatation device.Out of respect for the families involved, and because this is not a criminal incident, TCSO will not disclose the identity of the decedents via press release.
