Suspect Shot During Armed Robbery

On August 17, 2015, at 5:37pm, Deputies were dispatched to the Exxon Gas Station/McDonalds,
at 15900 North IH 35 Service Road South Bound (At Grand Avenue Parkway), for an
Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon call. Deputies found the victim who said she was
pumping gas when a Black Male approached her. She saw a silver handgun in his hand. The
suspect took her wallet and cellphone and left in a black car. As the deputy was getting the
information Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received another call of a robbery in progress at the Q
Mart, 1600 Wells Branch Parkway. Several Deputies responded to that location and confronted
the suspect inside the store. During the confrontation the suspect was asked to comply with the
deputies. He did not comply and produced a handgun. Deputies fired a Taser at the suspect. The
Taser did not appear to have an effect and when the suspect pointed his gun at Deputies, one
Deputy fired one time at the suspect wounding him. They then took him into custody and called
for Austin/ Travis County EMS. The suspect was taken to the hospital, received treatment for his
wound and then taken to the Travis County Jail.

The suspect is identified as;
Michael Oluwafemi Alegbeleye, Date of Birth 8-16-1984 of Austin.

The handgun was recovered from the scene and the Visa Credit Card from the first
victim was found in his pocket. He has been charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Robbery with
a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant. The bond has been
set at $150,000.00 on each charge.

The Deputy involved in this shooting is identified as Ruben Garcia. He has been with the
Sheriff’s Office over 21 years and is currently a Sergeant in the Law Enforcement Bureau. He
will be assigned to administrative duties until the Internal Affairs Investigation is complete.
