Missing Swimmer In Lake Travis
On July 13, 2014, at about 6:30pm, Deputies, along with Volente Fire Department, Austin/Travis
County EMS and STARFlight were called to the VIP Marina in reference to a missing swimmer.
Witnesses said that a group of people were on a boat and that two of the men decided to get in the water to cool off. One of the men appeared to be in distress and before they could get to him he went under the water and did not resurface.
Rescue swimmers from the Fire Department and STARFlight searched the water but could not
locate the man.
The missing man was identified by friends as, Song Hy Sok, Date of Birth 3-10-1994.
They said he lived and worked in the Dallas area and was visiting Lake Travis with co-workers. Since his disappearance members of the Sheriff’s Underwater Recovery Team have searched the area using a remotely operated underwater vehicle and divers as well as being assisted by resources from Texas Search and Rescue. The area being searched is just over 90 feet deep. They
report that the search has been hampered by an underwater grove of trees and the lack of
visibility. The search will continue.
