Requirements:
Physical requirements are lifting/carrying up to 10-15 pounds

Essential Functions:
Provides Corrections services involving the health, safety,
and security of inmates and the public in a Corrections facility or program.
Reports to a Sergeant, Corrections or other designated Supervisor.
Examples of work
performed:
Books, classifies, transfers, transports, and releases inmates
with attention to the health, safety, and security of other officers, inmates
and the public. Conducts inspections and inmate searches. Reviews, completes,
and processes official papers and documents. Conducts safety inspections and
fire drills. Provides informal counseling to inmates. Intervenes and resolves
crisis situations such as fights and medical emergencies. Conducts head counts.
Serves meals. Assists with the personal needs of inmates, such as telephone
calls, mail, visits. Monitors and assists visitors. May be assigned to classify
inmates into appropriate housing areas or custody levels. May be assigned
to plan, organize, and conduct inmate recreational programs. May be assigned
to interview, investigate, and evaluate inmates with regard to eligibility
for personal bond and make appropriate recommendations and follow-up. May
be assigned to maintenance duties. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements:
Standing, sitting, kneeling, stooping, lifting, bending,
climbing, twisting upper body, walking running, driving, carrying, hearing,
talking, exposure to outdoor conditions, qualifying with and carrying a weapon
and the ability to take physical control of another person as needed; and
exposure to: volatile or stressful situations, computer screens and individuals

Additional Requirements:
High School Graduation or its equivalent; Jailer certification
from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCLEOSE)
or the ability to successfully complete a certification course within twelve

pass all written, physical, and psychological tests required.
Preferred Qualifications:
At the time of application, completion of 12 semester hours
at an accredited college or university with a 2.0 grade point average or better.

Knowledge of laws, departmental policies, rules, regulations, instructions, and correctional literature regarding the custody of person. Ability to: 1) understand and follow oral instructions; 2) write clear and concise reports; 3) maintain complete records as required; 4) meet established physical standards; 5) provide complete and accurate testimony of past facts and incidents; 6) communicate both verbally and in writing to professional standards; and 7) maintain confidentiality of certain types of information is also required. Essential
Functions:
Conducts a medical, psychosocial and environmental assessment
of clients through personal interviews, observation and other methods to determine
clinical and other resources and services required. Conducts individual and
group counseling related to mental and behavioral problems, substance abuse
personal and other problems. Provides crises intervention services for clients.
Identifies clients in at-risk situations and seeks treatment solutions and
alternative environmental surroundings. Develops or assists in developing
treatment and intervention programs and recommends service plans for clients.
Presents potential diagnosis based on established criteria. Coordinates referral
of clients to clinical and other resources and services and monitors client
progress. Resolves obstacles to service delivery. Maintains primary responsibility
for coordinating client services provided by clinical and social service professionals
and community outreach service providers. Initiates and sustains ongoing advocacy
for client. Manages a client caseload.

Position Function:
Evaluates total health care need of patients and develops

Examples of work
performed:
Responds to inmate medical needs and arranges for or provides treatment. Maintains security and safety procedures for inmates and staff. Provides health care instruction and counseling to inmates. Assists physicians, psychiatrists and dentists as needed. Processes inmates into the jail by screening and evaluation of medical and mental histories as needed. Maintains inventory of medical supplies (including drugs) and maintains security control of these items. Fills and dispenses medicines and supervises self-administration. Answers inmate and staff inquiries. Maintains medical charts and records. Maintains the cleanliness of the work area. Performs clerical duties, such as records filing. Sets appointments for the inmates to see a physician, psychiatrist or dentist. Makes frequent observations of medical cells. Performs all other duties as may be assigned.
