Essential Job Functions:
Provides professional psychiatric medical care for secure facilities patients. Conducts psychiatric testing and evaluation, manages case planning, conducts psychiatric screening and consultation, creates appropriate treatment plans, and counsels offenders. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements:
Physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 35-100 pounds, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, client/customer contact, and squatting to perform the essential functions. Subject to contact with communicable diseases, radiation, hazardous waste, human fecal matter and foul odors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a degree as a medical doctor including residency in the field of psychiatry AND three (3) to five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in a correctional facility, psychiatric out patient clinic, or diagnostic clinic.
License:
Licensed to practice as a medical doctor in the State of Texas issued by the Texas Medical Board.
Valid Texas Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Certification in forensic psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Essential Job Functions:

PHYSICIAN’S ASSISTANT: Under general supervision of a physician and administrative supervisor, provides professional healthcare services within the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Corrections Bureau.

NURSE PRACTITIONER: Under general supervision of a physician and administrative supervisor, provides professional healthcare services in the area of clinical specialization within the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Corrections Bureau. Performs physical assessment of patients using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation and percussion. Reports normal and abnormal findings to a physician after specified screening procedures. Secures and evaluates complete medical histories of patients. Refers patients with abnormal findings to appropriate medical/psychological specialists for care. Provides healthcare within the scope of practice. Directs subordinate members of the health care team in the delivery of healthcare. Maintains inventory and security control of medical supplies, including drugs. Fills and dispenses medicines and supervises self-administration as necessary and appropriate. Provides counseling on health maintenance of chronic diseases, nutrition, family planning, general health care, preventable illnesses, cancer, and minor accidents. Assists patients in utilizing health resources available. Makes frequent observations of medical cells and assesses overall medical needs of patients housed in acute medical/psychiatric area. Plans, promotes, demonstrates, recommends and coordinates high standards of patient care practice. Manages patient and daily care programs in general health or in area of specialty. Introduces innovations in patient care and health programs. Maintains security and safety procedures for patients and staff. Ensures patients going to another facility are processed in accordance with established guidelines and procedures. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of principles and practices of clinical nursing specialty and/or general nursing; of instruments, equipment, and mechanical devices employed in specialty area of patient care; of the relationship between the clinical specialty and public health programs; of community organizations and health programs. Skill in effective oral and written communication; in establishing an effective and constructive working relationship with patients, families, physicians, departmental personnel, county employees and the general public. 



Certified Nursing Assistant and Medication Aid

Essential Job Functions:
Administers medications and/or provides treatments and assists with activities of daily living for inmates. Works under the clinical supervision of a Licensed Vocational Nurse, Registered Nurse, Physician‘s Assistant, Physician or Dentist. Administers routine prescribed medication to inmates. Monitors and documents inmate responses to administered medications . Administering daily medications to patients in an appropriate, safe manner and documenting results accurately. Takes and records vital signs, intake and output. Plans and evaluates care and records observations. Provides direct care to inmates including minor wound care, monitoring of vital signs, assisting wltl1 activities of daily living, bathing, feeding, etc. Processes Inmates into the jail by screening and obtaining medical, psycho-social and psychiatric information. Maintains inventory of medical supplies, including OTC/Prescription medications; maintains security control of these items. Initiates and maintains medical charts and records.

Requirements:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. and Six months Certified Nursing Assistant AND Certified Medication Aide licensed experience. Current CPR Certification. 

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

■ Salary: $33,764 - $42,205 annually commensurate with experience.

May provide clinical supervision to Certified Nursing Assistants. Essential Job Functions:
Evaluates health care needs and requirements of patients to develop plans of care to meet those needs. Coordinates the medical treatment and provides nursing care for patients. Provides clinical/administrative supervision for nursingstaff and collaboration with other health care/non-health care staff on duty.

• Assigns nursing schedules, duties and responsibilities to Certified Nursing Assistants, Licensed Vocational Nurses and Registered Nurses.

• Oversees clinic scheduling. Conducts annual evaluations for subordinate nursing personnel. Assesses, prioritizes and responds to all categories of patient emergent medical needs. Assigns nursing staff on dutyto provide treatment accordingly.

• Provides clinical supervision to nursing staff on duty. Reviews treatment programs and assesses overall effectiveness. Consults with clinical and administrative staff about patient health care issues. Provides direct health care to patients, including wound care, medication administration, monitoring of vital signs andlaboratory procedures. Documents patient’s condition.

• Coordinates with other medical staff about all aspects of patient health care.

Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
