This section contains the descriptions for the following positions hired by the Sheriff's Office. They include:

Certified Nursing Assistant
   Under clinical and administrative supervision, assists in providing direct patient care and administering medication. Assists patients with activities of daily living. Functions under the close supervision of a physician, registered nurse or other similarly licensed health care practitioner. Performs basic patient care functions. Works in secure facilities.

Corrections Officer  
   Provides Corrections services involving the health, safety, and security of inmates and the public in a Corrections facility or program. Reports to a Sergeant, Corrections or other designated Supervisor. Books, classifies, transfers, transports, and releases inmates with attention to the health, safety, and security of other officers, inmates and the public. Conducts inspections and inmate searches. Reviews, completes, and processes official papers and documents. Conducts safety inspections and fire drills. Provides informal 
counseling to inmates. Intervenes and resolves crisis situations such as fights and medical emergencies. Conducts head counts. Serves meals. Assists with the personal needs of inmates, such as telephone calls, mail, visits. Monitors and assists visitors. May be assigned to classify inmates into appropriate housing areas or custody levels. May be assigned to plan, organize, and conduct inmate recreational programs. May be assigned to 	interview, investigate, and evaluate inmates with regard to eligibility for personal bond and make appropriate recommendations and follow-up. May be 	assigned to maintenance duties. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Counselor/Victims Services Counselor (SR)
   Provides assessment, along with individual and group counseling (including crisis intervention counseling) to inmates. May provide counseling to correctional staff and families of inmates. Reports to Counseling Supervisor.  Screens and evaluates inmates for psychiatric illness and potentially suicidal characteristics. Provides individual and group counseling to inmates regarding: mental and behavioral problems, substance abuse, rehabilitation, personal and family problems, AIDS, and adjustment to confinement. Provides crisis 
intervention services. Administers, scores and interprets sociological, psychological and vocational tests. Plans, supervises and provides rehabilitation 	services. Maintains security and safety procedures for inmates and staff. Provides counseling to corrections staff and inmate family members. Prepares treatment plans, progress notes, interview records. Maintains case files. Prepares various reports and statistical records. Performs all other duties as may be assigned. 

Deputy Sheriff
   Patrols an assigned area, generally by vehicle, to prevent crimes and enforce laws and regulations. Responds to emergency calls and routine complaints and takes action as necessary. Issues traffic citations and directs traffic. Investigates traffic accidents and crimes against persons and property. Assists federal, state and local law enforcement officials. Keeps records of activities and makes reports concerning: crimes, complaints, accidents and investigations. Serves warrants and makes arrests. Apprehends and makes arrests. Apprehends and begins booking procedures on arrested individuals. May serve court papers including: writs, summons, subpoenas, and capias. May question witnesses and suspects and take statements and depositions. May gather and label evidence, take photographs and fingerprints, guard and transport prisoners, and testify in court. May patrol lake areas by boat. May address and work with community groups to promote good public relations and to inform citizens of police activities and crime prevention. May be responsible for animal control, especially related to cattle on roadways. May assist with Sheriff sales. Performs such other duties as may be assigned. 

Dispatcher
   Answers incoming telephone calls and radio reports. Evaluates and directs calls to the appropriate Officer or Agency. Performs computer-assisted and manual record checks for officers on individuals, locations, vehicles and other property (sometimes verifying warrants or reports of stolen property with the originating agency). Monitors and responds to radio traffic. Maintains current location and status of officers, various logs and computer data files (e.g. incident reports, stolen or repossessed property logs, wrecker rotation logs, maps, etc.). Enters information into the Texas and National Crime Information Computer Systems (TCIC/NCIC). Maintains equipment, work area and supply items. Performs all other duties as may be assigned. 

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
   Responds to inmate medical needs and arranges for or provides treatment. Maintains security and safety procedures for inmates and staff. Provides health care instruction and counseling to inmates. Assists physicians, psychiatrists and dentists as needed. Processes inmates into the jail by screening and evaluation of medical and mental histories as needed. Maintains inventory of medical supplies (including drugs) and maintains security control of these items. Fills and dispenses medicines and supervises self-administration. Answers inmate and staff inquiries. Maintains medical charts and records. Maintains the cleanliness of the work area. Performs clerical duties, such as records filing. Sets appointments for the inmates to see a physician, psychiatrist or dentist. Makes frequent observations of medical cells. Performs all other duties as may be assigned.

Office Specialist Senior
   Performs general clerical duties as required such as: answering phones, data entry, filing, photocopying, faxing, etc. Reviews, validates and processes a wide variety of documents. May create and maintain manual and computerized records and files. Uses independent judgment on establishing priorities and then applying procedures to manage workload with minimal supervision. May be required to answer phone calls from the public and other County agencies. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with internal and external Departments. Performs all other duties as may be assigned. 

Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse (RN)
   Evaluates total health care need of patients and develops plans to meet those needs. Arranges for or provides medical treatment to inmates. Responds to inmate medical needs and arranges for or provides treatment. Maintains security and safety procedures for inmates and staff. Provides health care instruction and counseling to inmates. Assists physicians, psychiatrists and dentists as needed. Processes inmates into the jail by screening and evaluation of medical and mental histories as needed. Maintains inventory of medical supplies (including drugs) and maintains security control of these items. Fills and dispenses medicines and supervises self-administration. Answers inmate and staff inquiries. Maintains medical charts and records. Maintains the cleanliness of the work area. Performs clerical duties, such as records filing. Sets appointments for the inmates to see a physician, psychiatrist or dentist. Makes frequent observations of medical cells and assesses overall medical needs of inmates housed in acute medical area. Performs all other duties as may be assigned.

Security Coordinator
Monitors and operates all security systems within the jail complexes including: the alarm system, base radio, cameras and electronic panel controlling access to the complex. Maintains accurate inventory of jail keys. Updates and maintains complete inmate rosters and a daily activity log. Performs various clerical duties such as: answering the telephone, sorting and distributing mail, and accepting money and property for inmates.
