In April 2001, the Blackwell-Thurman Criminal Justice Center opened adjacent to the Travis County Jail, off of Nueces Street. It contains a direct supervision booking facility and handles all arrested persons in Travis County. As part of the Blackwell-Thurman Criminal Justice Center, the tower also houses the criminal courts, probation offices and the District Attorney's Office. The city of Austin Municipal Court also offices in the Central Booking Facility.
