Corrections staff are responsible for the safe, secure and humane housing of all persons who are arrested and incarcerated by any agency in Travis County. With over 800 staff, they are the largest component of the Sheriff's Office. Staff are also responsible for a wide variety of programs involving the care and treatment of the inmate population, as well as alternative sentencing programs.

• Confining inmates / offenders in the most appropriate correctional environment consistent with community safety and individual circumstances related to their reintegration to society.
• Providing opportunities for inmates to use their incarceration time productively.
• Providing opportunities for habilitation, rehabilitation and self-improvement with family and community support and assistance.
• Providing appropriate therapeutic environments and services for the mentally ill, drug / alcohol dependent, medically infirm and physically challenged.
• Supporting the notion that treatment programs and work opportunities are both potentially beneficial to the inmate as well as management tools to reduce idleness and control negative behaviors.
• Intervening in the lives of inmates in an effort to reduce the high human and fiscal costs of recidivism.
